Getting Involved at CSI

February 18, 2010

Dear Fellow Congregant:

We are pleased to advise you that since we last wrote you about the proposed acquisition of a second parsonage, to be presently used as a home for Cantor Shiovitz and his Family, a great deal of progress has been made.
Ira Eisenstein and Jeff Miller have been actively engaged in securing financing through three different banks that would be in keeping with the long term investment the Congregation unanimously approved several months ago. Through their efforts, we are pleased to report that a favorable written mortgage commitment has been obtained and, since time is of the essence, we have accepted the commitment and are proceeding with the legal requirements mandated by the New York State Religious Corporation Law in submitting the necessary documents for Court approval.  However, if a more favorable written mortgage commitment is received from another bank in the interim, we can amend our filings.
Our Bank has agreed to provide a Mortgage of up to 80% of the appraised value of the new property at 38 Locust Road, Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and require a Down Payment of 20%. This will place a burden on the Congregation’s Budget, which is why we originally asked for voluntary contributions of up to $123,000, as a means to reduce the debt service of the mortgage.
We had hoped to inform you that we have reached our goal, but that is not the case.  We are pleased, however, that as of this date, over 75 Families have generously contributed (averaging $800.00 per family) approximately half of that amount.  While we realize that this is still a “work in progress” we urge those of you who have not yet contributed to do so, irrespective of the amount. If the remaining families each contribute an average of $200.00, we will reach our goal.

As in past appeals, we are confident that all of you will recognize that this acquisition will strengthen CSI’s viability in our Community and that you will have had the opportunity to be a part of this effort.

CSI counts on the active participation of its membership to provide support and services to the congregation and the community at large. We are always looking for members who are interested in volunteering some of their time and participating in the many aspects of synagogue life.

To give you an idea of the many opportunities to participate in CSI, the following is a partial list of the committees we have at CSI. Each link below will bring you to a brief description of the committee. Beyond those listed here, other opportunities to participate include our Choir, Nursery School and Religious School PTA, and many others.

If you wish to get more involved, please contact our office and let us know what you would like to do or by email.
