Code of Conduct : CSI's Code of Conduct

CONGREGATION SONS OF ISRAEL, CODE OF CONDUCT
 
Congregation Sons of Israel (CSI) is a Conservative, egalitarian Jewish congregation representing; and serving the needs of its members, congregants, families and community. How CSI conducts its business and fulfills its mission are vital elements in sustaining its positive reputation and achieving its goals most effectively. As a religious, cultural and educational organization, CSI must promote, maintain and expect adherence to a clear and unambiguous code of conduct.
 
The clergy, trustees, officers, employees, managers and volunteers of CSI are required to maintain and enforce the highest standards of ethical, legal and appropriate conduct while engaged in the activities of the congregation and in relationships with one another as well as members of the congregation. All parties employed by and representing CSI must take care to conduct themselves with honesty, compassion and professionalism while working in the organization's best interests. This includes:
  • Recognizing and adhering to careful and appropriate confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the business and affairs of CSI.
  • While acting on behalf of or representing CSI, respecting the dignity and worth of every person with whom CSI members and employees are in contact, including each other.
  • Refraining from dealing and acting solely in one's own self-interest while conducting CSI's business, activities and affairs.
  • Maintaining a spirit and practice of dedication and loyalty to CSI's purpose and mission.
  • Ensuring that the principles and values of Conservative Judaism are reflected in the management and administration of all of CSl's business, activities and affairs.
  • Respecting and adhering to CSl's organizational policies and managerial structure to promote appropriate delegations of authority and avoid gossip and unnecessary conflict in the conduct of CSI's business, activities and affairs.
  • Understanding, enforcing and maintaining a synagogue environment free of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, violence and bullying.
 
The Board of Trustees, because of its unique position of responsibility in guiding CSI, shall:
  • Ensure that fairness and respect are practiced and supported in all of its deliberations and the performance of its duties.
  • Be a leader within and outside the synagogue by setting the example of performing its duties in a scrupulous manner so as to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.
  • Act in good faith in its review and deliberation concerning all issues brought before it by seeking out, obtaining and considering the broadest range of information available to it, prior to decision making.
  • Properly exercise and delegate the authority vested in it by the congregation and comply with CSI's By-laws in all instances.
 
The Board of Trustees, through its Executive Committee has the primary responsibility for the communication, monitoring and enforcement of this Code of Conduct.
