Shabbat Hospitality
In the Genesis chapter 18 we learn about the importance of the mitzvah (commandment) of hachnasat orchim (welcoming of guests). We read of Abraham rushing from his tent to greet three angels in the desert. He quickly offers them water to drink and wash themselves. He and Sarah then prepare a feast for the strangers. The midrash adds that Abraham’s tent was open on all four sides so that he could quickly welcome guests coming from all four directions.
CSI strives to fulfill the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim especially on Shabbat, when many guests grace us with their presence. We begin by having ushers available to help you get comfortable in the service and we continue with our famous kiddush luncheon following services. At kiddush, please come up to us and introduce yourselves. We can schmooze, maybe play some Jewish geography, and make new friendships. If you are moving into our community, please make yourself known to us. We will do anything we can to make your transition to Northern Westchester as comfortable as possible.
